Postdoctoral Training


Postgraduate training is an important part of the work at the Barshop Institute. Postdoctoral positions (open to PhDs, MDs, and equivalents) are available in many laboratories for full-time research. The positions that are open currently are listed in this section under "Prospective Postdoctoral Positions". 

Geriatrics Fellows extend their training in Geriatrics in the clinical facilities associated with the Barshop Institute. All postdoctoral-level prospective trainees are invited to contact the appropriate faculty or staff member for further information on application procedures.

Training Program for Research Scientists in the Biology of Aging

Program Director: Nicolas Musi, MD

Program Co-Director: Peter Hornsby, PhD

The Biology of Aging Training Program provides stipends and training for pre- and postdoctoral fellows interested in basic research that holds promise for practical application towards lifespan intervention.

Fellowships in Geriatric Medicine

Program Director: Laura Chiodo, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine

The education and training of future specialists in geriatric medicine is a key mission of the Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology at the UT Health Science Center. The geriatric medicine program spans two years and offers an optional year for additional research.

Medical Fellowship — John A. Hartford Center of Excellence in Geriatric Education

Center Director: Michael Lichtenstein, MD, MSc Professor of Medicine

The clinical core curriculum includes participation in both community-based and VA-based continuity clinics, an out-patient evaluation unit, a geriatric consultation service, on-site and community-based nursing care, home care, and hospice programs.

Program Director: Sandra Sanchez-Reilly, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine
