Community Outreach

Community Engagement

In an effort to fulfill part of the Sam and Ann Barshop Institute’s mission to promote public awareness of age-related issues, faculty and staff often come out of their laboratories, clinics, and offices to attend community events with the goal of sharing their knowledge about research and aging.

From educational speaking engagements to community classes, resource fairs, and networking events, faculty and staff educate health professionals and the public about timely issues regarding healthy aging.

Community Advisory Board

In our continued quest to promote healthy aging throughout the community, in 2016, we formed the San Antonio Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center Community Advisory Board. Through the Community Advisory Board (CAB), community leaders provide guidance and advice on fostering community collaborations and facilitating public participation in research. CAB members meet quarterly at the university campus to learn about the latest trends in aging research. If you are interested in becoming a CAB member, please email BCR-DL@uthscsa.edu.

Request a speaker or participation in a community event

Investigators and physicians affiliated with the Sam and Ann Barshop Institute are available to speak to community groups on a variety of topics related to healthy aging and geriatric medicine.
