South Texas Aging Research Repository Initiative (STARRI)

Purpose of this Study

Many research studies don’t include a broad population, including older adults or people from underrepresented communities. As we age, many factors like lifestyle, environment, and biology can affect our health and well-being. But researchers still don’t fully understand how these different factors work together over time. This makes it harder to develop effective ways to support healthy aging for everyone. This study is working to change that by building a research database and specimen repository that helps scientists explore aging-related health issues like chronic disease, physical and mental function, and biological changes. By collecting and sharing this information with qualified researchers, we hope to support studies that lead to better understanding, care, and health outcomes for older adults.

Objective

To facilitate aging research by creating a resource of data and biological specimens that is representative of the diverse South Texas community, with an emphasis on underrepresented groups in aging research. This resource will be made available to researchers studying aging and related health issues.
